Can we Light Charcoal in Microwave

Can we light charcoal in the microwave? The short answer yes, but it’s not recommended. So, the best thing to do is light your charcoal with other tools such as a stove, or lighter.

Light charcoal from the oven/microwave is not good, why? Because it can harm and can be dangerous. Because if you put it on oven, the charcoal start to make a high heat and fire particles or sparks, so it is not recommended because it can burn your kitchen.

The quality is also not as good as your light it from the stove or with a lighter, because it directly transfer heat from fire (even though you can use an aluminum bowl for lighting it). But if you put it in the oven, the briquettes need more time to start to lighting up and will not have a higher heat compare when you light it with others.

It can also give a bad smell to your microwave after you light the charcoal, the smell it more like burnt food and it is toxic if you put your food in the oven because there is still lots of carbon monoxide and other gas that is stuck in the oven or microwave.

Maybe it’s easier than fighting with a stove or a lighter, because lighting charcoal with microwave is faster, and the microwave who do the hard work. And you just can wait until charcoal becomes white in every side.

But we also need to think the worst circumstances, because it has a higher possibilities for the microwave to explode and the charcoal starts to burn.

But what if you need to light up the charcoal with a microwave? If you feel there is no other way to light the charcoal besides microwave (if for example, you do not have a gas stove, or don’t have a lighter in a moment)

If you must use a microwave, it is recommended to use an old and a second microwave, thrown out microwave oven, not the one that is used to warm up food.

The best is to find the amplifying points in the oven, where the coal will warm up faster. DO NOT USE THE STOCK GLASS PLATE, IT WILL BREAK FROM THE HEAT!

Also, I do not recommend putting the coals on the oven’s metal surface itself, in many cases it has a plastic coating which will burn with a terrible smell. Use a ceramic plate or something non-metallic to put the coals on.

When lighting up your charcoal/charcoal briquettes in the microwave, you just need 3 minutes to wait until the charcoal starts to becomes white.
